This effect is the result of drawing on an image (not visible) that provides a threshold bitmap for displaying the liquid texture. Over time, this image fades away giving the appearance that the liquid revealed with each stroke slowly evaporates after showing itself. In addition to using threshold, the DisplacementMapFilter is used to add some distortion.
